New Year Resolutions

As the new year approached we gathered our children and asked them what kind of things they would like to work on this year, personally as well as something to help the family.

"She will work on her negative attitude" that seems to have plagued her over this past year. I haven't figure out if it is just being a teenager and so much weighing on her shoulders or if she is really that unhappy with life. This will be a great thing for her to work on and improve her self esteem and her family life ( seeing how having a negative attitude takes away privilges.)

That he will work on "doing things when asked and show more respect for his family." This is something that has been an issue in our home. It seems the children only do things half way, taking their clothes upstairs 1/2 way ( left on the stairs,) taking out the trash ( the bag left outside the door instead of taken to the can) seems to be a constant thing. So when he said this I thought FINALLY!

His thoughts were something along the lines of not telling us fibs anymore. He thinks if he tells us the truth to begin with he will be in more trouble, but I can't count the times we have told this little one that it is better to tell the truth the 1st time and that the consequences won't be so grave if he tells the truth. So this too was a great one for him to work on.

I am so grateful for these children who have graced our family with their presence. They are a challenge at times but so worth it at the end of the day! We love you dearly!!

I know that we all make "NEW RESOLUTIONS" but I do wonder how many of us actually keep them for more than a day, a week or even a month? I just like others have made my own some of them require physical work while others require spiritual work. I am going to try my hardest to at least make them a habit then they won't be a resolution, it will be A WAY OF LIFE! Some of these hoping to make a way of life are these:

Be kinder to people

Try and get to Church more regularly

Instill some healthy eating

Adding some more exercise

No more Dr.Pepper

Let me explain some of these things for they look rather simple however they are not. First I have a hard time with compassion for those who do not use their common sense that they were given so being kind is a challenge sometimes. Getting to Church has not been the easiest with my work schedule, the boys do go with Guy to the Kingdom Hall but I NEED to be in Church. As for the Dr. Pepper that is my ADDICTION of life and I crave that more than anything, but it is so not good for me so I know I must give it up. So those are few things I want to change.
